Random Thoughts Part Deux

OK, can we NOW dispense with the notion that Islamic extremists resort to terror tactics due to either lack of intelligence/education, and/or lack of wealth or access to higher-wage jobs? The failed attacks in London and Glasgow were planned and executed by 8 doctors working in the UK NHS (National Health System).

One day, as a people, we will stop projecting our thought process and moral values on our enemies and realize that this is a cultural and religious war, where radical Muslims are determined to impose their extremist views on all of us, and through whatever means necessary.

Random Thoughts

Been busy and away from the blog awhile. Some random thoughts, as it's a bit slow today:

1. Bush grants clemency to Libby: Good news, and long overdue. I'd have preferred a full pardon, as it seems this was a political witch-hunt from the beginning. The "conviction" came down to Libby's memory of events vs. Tim Russert's, some 2-years after the fact ... all about a non-crime, and where no-one was ever charged.

2. Immigration bill defeated: Perfect example of where one should not see either sausage or legislation being made. There was something in this bill that everyone could hate. What's a shame is NOTHING is being done now to solve the problems. I have a thought, how about enforcing the provisions of the 1986 immigration and amnesty bill that had been on the books for 21-years now? I think the same bill, without the amnesty provisions (allowing automatic or front-of-the-line treatment for obtaining citizenship) would be good. In reality, there is no way to round up and deport 12 million people, so we have to come up with a way to deal with them here. Biometric ID's; instant checks for prospective employers; harsh penalties for employing undocumented aliens; mandatory payment into social welfare programs, like Social Security and Medicare; no extension of residency privileges to extended family; etc. Wait!!! That sounds a lot like the '86 bill!

3. Talk Radio and the Fairness Doctrine: Politicians - stop with the whining!! Talk radio is no better/worse than the NY Times, Washington Post, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, etc. Radio leans heavily to the right; these other media outlets lean heavily left. This is called free speech, and is an important element of our democratic republic. If the politicians really believe that their legislative plans are what's best for the country, either do a better job of "selling" it to the people upfront, or vote your convictions regardless of how many phone calls, emails and faxes you're receiving. The problem IS NOT that your constituents are speaking up, nor is it a problem that Talk Radio is informing the public. The problem is that you're failing to show even a modicum of leadership on the issues.

4. Independence Day: Just an FYI ... we are celebrating the Independence Day Holiday tomorrow, not the 4th of July Holiday. Calling it anything other than Independence Day does not give our founders their due in fighting and dying for freedom.
